Spring Fever
Happy spring, y’all! We’ve reached that time of year when I barely have time to write at all, much less get a weekly blog post up. Garden chores demand every moment of my time off. Today, I’ll be starting a second round of seeds: basil (several varieties), marigolds, zinnias, phlox, and a few other things. I’ll also be reorganizing the garage now that Tim has finished building my new walk-in cooler! The cheap fridge I bought last year was handy, but it wasn’t big enough to hold all of my harvested flowers. I ended up tossing so many stems. Tim continues to humor me and this flower obsession of mine. Besides building the cooler, he’s also ripped out some old defunct cabinets in the garage, put together some shelving units for storage, and started another propagation rack. He just needs to attach lights. Seriously, if you don’t have a Tim, you should get one. Here’s a little video of the cooler: IMG_5922
On a not-so-happy note, I’ve spent a couple of days this week on the couch. My left knee had been bothering me a little before I left Mexico. I figured it was just stiff from a lack of activity, and once I got home, it would work itself out. By the end of last Tuesday, it was swollen and aching. On my way home from work, I stopped at urgent care; an X-ray showed joint inflammation. I was given a prescription for an anti-inflammatory and told to wrap the knee and stay off of it as much as possible for a few days. I can’t say I’m totally surprised. I have an extensive family history of arthritis. I just thought I’d have a few more years before it hit me, too. I’ve gotten a few recommendations for Voltaren, a topical anti-inflammatory. I’m going to start using this today and hope it’ll get me moving well enough to survive the chaos that is Bates Nursery in spring.
I’m keeping it short today; there is much to do! You’ll probably only see me on here every couple of weeks for the remainder of spring and summer unless something totally awesome happens; like a book update. Here’s this week’s Flower Power Friday arrangement.
